“The Explorer’s Faith”, the latest work by Chang Yen-Tzu, is not only an innovative fusion of technology and art, but also a profound tribute to women’s history and a contemporary reflection on their lived experience. The performance, premiering in Lublin, becomes a dialogue between past and present.

The artist draws inspiration from stories of women who, at various moments in Taiwanese history, challenged restrictive social norms. From resisting the tradition of foot-binding, through gaining access to education during the Japanese occupation, to today’s ongoing struggles for equality – Chang weaves a narrative of enduring faith in the right to self-determination. The women whose experiences underpin the piece are not merely historical figures, but powerful sources of strength for those facing new, often less visible but equally forceful, forms of oppression.

Using depth sensors, video projections, and advanced image mapping, the artist creates an immersive world where dancers’ bodies blend into the visual forms. The stage is filled with symbolic objects – ropes, fabrics, and hand-crafted balloons – evoking a metaphorical journey through resistance, action, truth, and acceptance.
